Yesterday I had the good fortune of seeing CMF Principal Investigator Esther Duflo present the results of the much-cited Spandana study at USAID’s terrific After Hours Series in Washington DC. As a knowledge dissemination person, cheap Levitra this was sort of a dream event, an opportunity for CMF and JPAL’s research results to be presented to the heart of the microfinance industry, the decision-makers, the paradigm-shifters….you get my drift. Until USAID puts up Professor Duflo’s presentation, you should use a similar one presented by Professor Banerjee at the recent CMF-CAB conference in Pune.

An ongoing study conducted by Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA) and the Center for Microfinance (CMF) seeks to gain a better understanding of moneylending purchase drugs online in India. This study occurred as part of IPA’s project to illuminate the business practices of informal lenders and the relationship of these lenders to their institutional counterparts across five different countries: India, Ghana, the Phillipines, Mexico and Columbia. The study in India was conducted in the Fall of 2009, and, through 48 moneylender interviews and 44 borrower interviews, reveals the prevalence of high-interest informal loans.
