Philippe Starck: Designing not for art’s sake, but for the benefit of the customer
“Design” is a funny old thing. It’s easy imagine that designers sit all day long and wait for their muse to strike, others think that designers are constantly seeking for inspiration reading books, visiting museum, learning all kinds of artsy stuff.

Songs in the key of life: What makes music emotional?
So why do tunes in a major key, such as Singin’ in the Rain, sound cheerful, while those in minor keys – Pink Floyd’s Another Brick in the Wall, say – sound gloomy and depressing? The answer – in part – seems to be that the patterns of pitches in major keys mirror those of excited speech, whereas minor keys parallel subdued speech

Education
To begin with, thank you. Thank you to all of those people who have devoted themselves to teaching. Being an educator has to be one of the most difficult jobs around, especially if you’re good at it. Yes, it has tremendous rewards, but it’s hard work wrought with stress and at times a great deal of frustration. Having started and run a private school, I certainly have my own opinions about the subject of education, and I suppose about educators in general. I believe that every student, every child, every person is unique. And if you’re a good teacher, you approach your job with that in mind

Delhi High Court RTI judgment
The Delhi High Court RTI judgment (holding that the CJI’s office comes under the purview of the RTI Act) is available at: http://www.docstoc.com/docs/22007185/APS12012010-LPA5012009 It is interesting that this, and all other judgments, start with the judges signing off on whether the judgment can be reported in local papers, reporters and digests. I wonder why judges have this discretion, especially since the requirement of giving public reasons is a very (or only?) important mechanism for judicial accountability in India.
