Thus, the teacher’s lawsuit alleging retaliation, and ultimately, discharge, for his complaints was properly dismissed by a lower federal court, a panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit, in New York City, ruled 2-1

Moneylending: Friend or Foe of Microfinance?

An ongoing study conducted by Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA) and the Center for Microfinance (CMF) seeks to gain a better understanding of moneylending in India. This study occurred as part of IPA’s project to illuminate the business practices of informal lenders and the relationship of these lenders to their institutional counterparts across five different countries: India, Ghana, the Phillipines, Mexico and Columbia. The study in India was conducted in the Fall of 2009, and, through 48 moneylender interviews and 44 borrower interviews, reveals the prevalence of high-interest informal loans.

Plan to Close School Ends

A committee in the South Dakota Senate has killed a bill that would have changed the state constitution and allowed closure of the South Dakota School for the Deaf. The governor tried to close the campus last year but the parents filed a federal class-action lawsuit saying state’s constitution prevented the move. The bill’s sponsor, Al Novstrup, says there is a new proposal that would make the bill unnecessary

Protest Over ASL Program Closing

Students trying to save the Deaf Education Program at Michigan State University are planning to launch an email campaign asking administrators to, “Please keep MSU’s Deaf Education Program for our deaf children who use ASL in Michigan.” Late last year, the school announced plans to close the program. It’s one of nearly two dozen that are set to shut down.

A federal investigation of Florida’s Dept of Children and Families over its failure to provide services to deaf clients has been completed. The US Dept of Health & Human Services says the agency failed to provided sign language interpreters to deaf persons in critical situations related to child protective services investigations and state mental health facilities. Driving Instructors are stupid!

Many learner drivers or their families seem to think that driving instructors are stupid, not inteligent and can’t do any other job which is why they are stuck with giving tuition to provisional licence holders. Over the years, I seen many comments online about ADI’s or just from the way instructors are addressed, I mentioned in the past about the swearing pupil who thought that paying me money earnt them the right to do whatever they liked in my car. Yesterday I got an email via my driving school website from learner driver which went something like this: “I am interested in taking 25 driving lessons with you, but I have a question about the Borehamwood test centre, what distance do they test your eyesight from, and do they use a particular number plate?” Now did the sender of this email think that I would only answer the question if they promised me something in return, because I was desperate for more learner drivers?
